How much does it cost to register a trademark / trade mark?

The cost of a trademark application are composed of primarily of two items together:

  1. Office of the offices and fees
  2. Attorney's fees for advising on the application

Trademark registration fees: The fees charged by the Trademark Offices

The official fees for a trademark application are aimed primarily followed, in which countries you want to protect your brand and to what extent, that is, for how many goods and services.

The official registration fee for the registration of a trademark in Europe (with protection in the 27 countries of the European Union), the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) costs 900 EUR (including the class fee for up to three classes). For each additional class from the 4th Class is a class fee of 150 EUR to be paid.

Trademark application costs: International Trademark Registration

The official registration fees for international trademark registration depends on the number of countries where the mark is to be protected. Please contact us to get a custom quote for your international brand.

Example calculation: IR mark (base brand in Germany), 3 classes, with effect in the EU, Switzerland and the United States: 3,075 CHF.

Trademark application costs: Switzerland

The official registration fee for the registration of a trademark in Switzerland at the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property ( IGE ) costs 550 CHF (approx. 437 EUR) (including the class fee for up to three classes). For each additional class from the 4th Class is a class fee of 100 CHF (approx. 80 EUR) to pay.

The official registration fee for the registration of a trademark in Austria, the Austrian Patent Office will cost EUR 359 (registration, printing costs, certificate of registration of a mark, including the class fee for up to three classes). For each additional class from the 4th Class is a class fee of 72 EUR to be paid.

Frequently asked questions about the cost of a trade mark application

The registration fee and class fees are application fees, the date (regardless of the outcome of the trademark registration process) with the application and payment. This means that the registration fees are not paid as in rejection of the trademark application for the trademark Schutzunfähigleit or withdrawal of the trademark application.

If for a faster processing of your registration of interest, the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA), an acceleration request be made. The fee is 200 EUR acceleration.

The protection of a trademark is valid initially for a period of 10 years. By paying the renewal fee, the term of protection be extended for another ten years without limit.
